Deacon and Lay Ministries Formation

Mission

The Deacon and Lay Ministries Formation Program for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise

provides intellectual, spiritual, human and pastoral formation to those individuals

who have been identified by their pastors and parish leadership as having the gifts and

the call from God to serve the people of God in Idaho in public ministry.

All formation is ultimately self-formation. All any formation program can do is provide structure and feedback so growth in holiness and competency are maximized. Formation is not a four-year project but a life-long habit, as is the prayerful discernment that leads a person to explore formation for ministry. God invites each of us to be constantly examining our lives so we more faithfully reflect Christ who dwells in us. Consequently, formation needs to involve the whole human being; the emotions, the imagination, the will and the heart as well as the mind. The formation program in Boise, which will form people for diaconate and lay ministry side-by-side, strives to engage all these aspects of the person through activities that feed the human, the spiritual, the intellectual and the pastoral.
