Idaho Catholic Schools
If you haven’t made the decision to send your children to one of Idaho’s Catholic schools, what is holding you back? Is it the expense? The distance? The fact that your taxes already go towards public education? All of those concerns are understandable. Our question to you is: What do you want for your children? Catholic schools produce students who are strongly dedicated to their faith, values, families and communities. While excelling at the traditional subjects of reading, writing and arithmetic as evidenced by continued strong testing scores, Idaho’s Catholic schools will provide your child something that is uniquely different from what you will find elsewhere in the state: a spiritual, faith-based community.
Our commitment to ensure out students’ faith formation experience creates a sense of belonging, cohesiveness, and connection to a greater whole. The security which comes from that sense of belonging is what sets the stage for our children’s academic success, personal and spiritual growth and ability to realize their maximum potential throughout their lives.
What do you receive as a return on the investment you will be making in the lives of your children? Adults who attended Catholic Schools are more likely to: Be more tolerant of diverse views Understand that stewardship is a way of life within their communities and in the Church Be active parishioners Attend College Pursue advanced degrees Enter religious life Be civically engaged Vote Earn higher wages
We ask you to consider joining us in our diocesan schools in the joyful and faith-filled adventure of educating the next generation in authentic discipleship of Jesus Christ. You may still be wondering if you can afford it, but can you afford not to? While there may be alternatives to Catholic education in Idaho, there are no substitutes.

Sumo Match of the Century
|
|
The much anticipated Sumo Match of The Century for Sacred Heart students, staff, family, and friends came on December 1st at 2:30 pm. As everyone started filling the school’s gym at 2:15 pm, with cameras, video cameras, and signs of encouragement, Fr. Rob Cook, Sacred Heart Parish Pastor, and Mr. Brock Carpenter, Sacred Heart School Principal, were busy gearing up for their sumo wrestling debut.

The weeks and months of gathering pledges and running laps in the rain to raise money for our school had finally paid off and the incentive of watching Fr. Rob and Mr. Carpenter wrestle was finally here.
Smokin’ Fr. Rob Cook and Nail Poundin’ Mr. Carpenter emerged in their sumo gear, Fr. Rob in a red belt and Mr. Carpenter in blue, were greeted with lots of cheers, clapping, and laughter. The match lasted 30 minutes, which seemed to go by rather quickly for fans watching. With each knock down came roars of cheers from the fans as it took 2 to 3 students to help them back to their feet and re-position themselves again for another round. It was a close match throughout the event and in the end it was Mr. Carpenter who emerged the winner, once again to cheers and clapping by fans watching.
It was obvious by the looks on their faces that Fr. Rob and Mr. Carpenter enjoyed the match much more than they anticipated. Thank you Fr. Rob and Mr. Carpenter for a fabulous event that won’t soon be forgotten!

2011 Data from NWEA and Blue Ribbon Schools Program
|
|
|
North West Evaluation Association (NWEA) Measure of Academic Progress tests that the Diocese of Boise Catholic schools use is accepted by the Blue Ribbon Schools Program as a qualifying test. Blue Ribbon Schools is a national program that recognizes exemplary schools throughout the nation each year. For the second consecutive year, the data shows that the Catholic schools in Idaho have outstanding academic achievement in Math and Reading, the two areas measured for Blue Ribbon qualification.
The criterion is that a school must be in the top 15% of the nation for each grade tested. That means that to qualify for Blue Ribbon Schools Program, every class in grades two through eight, or lower if the school doesn’t have all those grades, must be in the top 15% of all the schools tested by NWEA. That is a group that includes over 4.5 million students in almost 900 school districts, public and private.
The following table shows the number of classes in the top 15% for each grade level, and the total percent for all the classes in the Diocese of Boise at each grade level.

Two obvious facts emerge from this data. First, the Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Boise are providing an excellent academic education to our students. Second, the longer students are with us, the better they do academically.
Notes: One school does not test 2nd graders. One school does not go past 5th grade. Four schools do not go past 6th grade. One school opened a 7th grade last year and will add an 8th grade next year.
