Fall Conference News

We have completed surveys of participants and planning team members and presented an executive summary to Bishop Mike and his cabinet.

As a result of this consultation, we plan to repeat this year’s Fall Conference format for 2012 in Pocatello, Boise, Moscow and Coeur d’Alene, followed by a single site conference in 2013.  Site chairpersons and diocesan staff are deep into the planning process.

In response to consistent requests for an earlier time and to make it possible for the Bishop to attend, Fall Conference 2012 called, chosen, sent will take place September 21 and 22nd.  Keynote speakers (Jim Reed, Fr. Ernesto Caro, Thomas Smith, and Mary Sharon Moore) will be broadcast.

Sr. Meg's 50th Jubilee as a Benedictine Sister

Sr. Meg is preparing for her 50th Jubilee as a Benedictine sister. The monastic community celebration is July 28th at 1:30 pm at the Monastery of St. Gertrude in Cottonwood.  Sacred Heart Parish is planning a Mass and reception at 7:00 pm on August 15th.  You are most welcome to attend either event; RSVP to Sr. Meg MSass@RCDB.org  by July 6 if you plan to come to Cottonwood and need overnight housing.

Catechist Certification Questions

During 2012, the Diocese of Boise will review its processes for initial certification of catechists and renewal of certification.

In the meantime, the present process and forms are located here.  English / Spanish  The forms for both basic and renewed certification are in the same document.  Please note that the signature of a principal or director of religious education is needed for both original and renewed certification.

Formation in all areas of catechesis is needed for basic and renewed certification.  It is possible to take many Scripture or theology courses without deepening your knowledge of the Creed, of Church History, etc.
During the three years allowed for initial formation and renewals, there are many opportunities to pursue formation in these required areas.  See details and options on Parish Catechist Certification document (see  document in English, see document in Spanish.)

We continue to be grateful for your dedication to your students and to your efforts in deepening your own understanding and faith.  Please call us if we can ever be of help.

Catechist Formation Training

Over 162 Principals, school teachers, DRE’s and catechists attended the first of six training sessions

to deepen their spirituality, their knowledge of the faith and their teaching skills.

Year 2 Dates:

Northern Deanery

October 6, 2012

Eastern Deanery

October 6, 2012

Southern  Deanery

October 13, 2012

North Central Deanery

October 13, 2012

West Deanery

West Central Deanery

Purpose:

To provide both a beginning and an advanced track for the formation and information of Principals, DRE’s and their catechists.

Plan:

To offer, over three years, a comprehensive program for beginning and continuing catechists, principals and DRE’s. These classes qualify for certification or re-certification in the Diocese of Boise.  Certification requires participation in each of the 6 Saturdays or equivalent program.  Each session covers 3 sections of Echoes of Faith (6 hours) or 6 hours of theology for re-certification.  For the remaining 4 hours for re-certification, catechists should submit lesson plans for two classes to be observed by a DRE, Principal, or other appropriate person, with a follow-up debriefing.

Persons interested in obtaining a college degree or college credits should contact

Deacon Richard Kulleck at the Diocesan Pastoral Center (208) 342-1311 or RKulleck@RCDB.org.

Track A is intended for those who have not done the Echoes of Faith program AND those who have not taught religion classes.

Track B is intended for those who have completed Echoes of Faith and taught at least one year.

Principals and DRE’s are encouraged to attend the Echoes of Faith track if they plan to train their own catechists.  The process involves more than watching a video.
