Roman Catholic Diocese of Boise

Established as 'vicariate' March 3, 1868
Erected a "diocese" by Pope Leo XIII, August 26, 1893

Today, the Diocese of Boise, which encompasses the entire state of Idaho, has:

  • Six deaneries
  • Catholic population - 145,900 (11% of population)
  • Fifty-one parishes, 31 stations, and 25 chapels
  • Five Catholic hospitals (not owned by the Diocese)
  • Thirteen diocesan elementary schools
  • One Catholic high school - Bishop Kelly HS, Boise
  • Forty active diocesan priests plus five on loan
  • Twelve order priests with seven on diocesan assignments
  • Forty-nine permanent deacons (four retired)
