JOB DETAILS:
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Evangelization/Catechesis
o Develop vibrant and orthodox programming that will lead middle school and high school students into a deeper relationship with Jesus.
High-school and middle school weekly faith formation
Regular social events for middle school and high school youth
Retreat opportunities for both age groups
Confirmation preparation class
Participation in Works of Mercy
o Participate in the life and ministries of the parish and introduce youth to ministry leaders so they are engaged in the wider parish community
o Have an active presence at St. Mark’s and Bishop Kelly High School
o Plan 8th grade school retreat in collaboration with middle school religion teachers
o Schedule altar servers for funerals
• Parish relations:
o Represent the needs of youth and young adults to the parish leadership and encourage parishioners to engage in relationships with our teens
o Facilitate the development of community among young people, their families, their parish, and the local community.
o Support parents and guardians in their roles as the primary catechists of their households
o Serve as the liaison with the diocesan offices and their programs, services, and resources.
• Leadership development:
o Participate in Diocesan youth ministry trainings and events
o Coordinate the recruitment, training, support and evaluation of adult volunteers in the youth ministry program
o Engage in ongoing formation with volunteers
• Administration/general
o Supervise the activities and schedules of youth ministry volunteers and employees.
o Develop and manage a youth ministry budget.
o Effectively and creatively provide communication to teens, the parish, and community regarding activities and events through the use of church bulletin, announcements, and social media. Develop a good working relationship with the Director of Communications for the parish.
o Develop and maintain records and database(s) of information pertinent to youth ministry such as membership lists, event information, budget, Sacramental records (Confirmation), etc.
o Actively participate at parish events, diocesan gatherings, and related activities.
o Adhere to the policies and guidelines of the Diocesan employee handbook.
o Attend regular St Mark’s Parish staff meetings and communicate about youth ministry activities
POSITION SPECIFICATIONS and NEEDS:
• Skills, Knowledge and/or Abilities
o Strong personal relationship with Jesus and a deep love for the Catholic Church, practicing Catholic in good-standing
o Passion for evangelizing middle school and high school students
o A joyful, authentic, charitable, prayerful and courageous presence
o Thrives in team environments and has ability to work collaboratively
o Effective organizer, planner, and implementer
o Working knowledge of social media platforms
o Past experience with youth ministry
o Ability to pass a criminal background check
o Ability to make connections with the youth and parents of St Mark’s
o A registered and active parishioner of St Mark’s Parish; weekly Mass attendance, active in one or more Liturgical Ministries.
• Education, Training and/or Experience
o Past experience with youth ministry (retreats, small group organization and management, faith sharing, etc.)
o BA in Theology/Religious Education or a related educational field and/or a certificate in ministry or theology from a Catholic institution of higher learning is preferred
o Strong verbal and written communication skills; proficient in composing reports, correspondence and in publishing e-newsletters and flyers
o Has knowledge of and experience with current youth culture, current trends & issues
o Strong planning and organizational skills in working with youth and volunteers
