Part Time Counselor

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. The teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Meet with students individually and in small groups concerning social/emotional topics.
  • Teach monthly lessons in classrooms concerning social/emotional topics.
  • Assist students with executive functioning and academic needs.
  • Communicate with parents concerning student needs.
  • Assist in facilitating the Child Success Team (CST) at Sacred Heart to better meet the needs of all students.
  • Demonstrate effective planning skills and classroom management for counseling lessons and activities.
  • Understand and abide by all laws and ethical guidelines of school counselors in Idaho.
  • Establish a relationships with staff members, parents, and students.
  • Maintain a functional and pleasant office environment and be a responsible steward of the resources.
  • Cooperate with School and Diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information; display sound judgment in dress and general behavior.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Working knowledge of and a strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church. If a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church.
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and oral, public speaking, and presentation skills.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; must be a self-starter and be well- organized; must be a team player.
  • Be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer technology including word processing and the use of excel and related technology.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and understand legal parameters of counseling work.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately in a ministerial environment.
  • Complete and pass a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing; clean and neat personal appearance.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution
  • School counselor certification OR professional counseling license.

Terms of Employment:

Length of Employment: Part-time annual contract August-May
