Investiture and classes set at Our Lady of Ephesus

The Verbum Spei Fraternity is celebrating the simple vows of Brother Juan Vargas and the investiture of Brother Nathan Baker.


The vows, investiture and Mass are at 11 a.m. on Sunday, May 29 at the Verbum Spei Monastery of Our Lady of Ephesus, 4450 N. Five Mile Rd, in Boise. A reception lunch follows the Mass and ceremony.


In another event related to Verbum Spei, registration is open for a father and son retreat Friday and Saturday, May 21-22. The retreat focuses on the theme, “What does it mean to be a man?” The retreat is geared toward fathers with sons who are ages 10 to 18. Topics include why belief is necessary, what it means to pray, how to relate to social media and how to pass on experience to the next generation. Registration is online at vsboise.org. Verbum Spei is also offering classes including a study on the John Paul II encyclical “Dominum et Vivificantem/ On the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Church and the World” at 7 p.m. on Mondays. A Bible study on the First Epistle of St. John is at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays; and Philosophy and Meta-physics class is taught at 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.


The fraternity’s “Theology and Lunch” series continues with the topic “The Holy Spirit” on Sunday, June 5. The talk begins at 10 a.m. for adults, with a separate presentation by the Brothers for children. Mass follows at 11 a.m. and then a lunch is served.


The Verbum Spei prayer line takes live prayer requests from 7:30 to 9 p.m. each day. Two volunteers pray for intentions before the Blessed Sacrament. The prayer line number is 208-PRAY-4US (208-772-9487). Prayer requests may also be emailed to prayer@vsboise.org.
