An announcement to be made at all parishes on the weekend of August 26-27
Dear Catholic Faithful,
The recent tragic wildfires in Maui have been on the minds and hearts of many of us, and certainly, we need to be praying for all who have been so adversely affected by this disaster.
I am asking that our diocese respond with charity to the people of Maui by taking up a special collection on the weekend of August 26-27. The funds from this collection will be sent to the Diocese of Honolulu, which has set up a special relief fund for Maui.
If people wish to write checks, they can write the check to your parish, putting "Hawaii Catholic Community Foundation" on the description line. Each parish can deposit their cash and check donations by sending a single check to the Diocese of Boise. The Diocese will then forward all the funds directly to Honolulu.
The video below provides a beautiful interview with a priest of the Diocese of Honolulu. The local parish in Lahaina was miraculously spared from the flames which has become a beacon of hope for the locals. Perhaps this miracle serves as a symbolic reminder of God's enduring presence even amid tremendous hardship and tragedy.
Thank you for helping us extend much-needed resources to the good people of Maui during these most dark days in their history. May God bring them healing, restoration, and a future filled with renewal and hope.
Sincerely Yours in Christ,
Bishop Peter Christensen
